Dorota Dziong

Artist member since 2020
Toronto, Ontario

In her recent work Dorota focuses on the effects of repetition and distortion of figurative subject matter in painting. Repetition is a way of expressing/handling anxiety and obsessiveness, as well as an exercise in dealing with inescapable passage of time. This work has been read as the body moving through time, space and psychological states. It presents a “crowd” of self-similar images. In life, the crowd can create groupthink, populist-style erasure of nuance and exclusionary belief in an “other”. In this work the crowd offers the illusion of sameness, but this is denied by the differences in each iteration.

Dorota graduated from the Studio program at the University of Toronto and her exhibition history includes invitational events, group exhibitions, and gallery representation at venues in Toronto, as well as paintings in private collections. In 2019-20 she was part of Akin MOCA residency.
